A display board is usually damaged between the house and the venue rather than at the venue. Corners crush, faces scuff and folds go soft.
Protect the corners
Corners take every knock. Carrying the board inside a sleeve or bag, even a soft one, absorbs most of it. If you have no bag, a sheet of card taped over each corner for the journey does a surprising amount of good.
Carry it closed and flat
A trifold travels folded, not half open. Half open puts all the stress on the creases and they lose their crispness quickly. Keep the printed faces inward so nothing rubs against them.
Storing between uses
Store boards upright or flat, never leaning at an angle — a leaning board slowly takes on a bow it does not lose. Somewhere dry matters too; cardboard and foam both absorb moisture from a damp cupboard and go limp.
Reusing a board
If you plan to reuse the same board, mount work on separate sheets and attach those to the board rather than working directly on the surface. Swapping sheets is easy. Removing glued-on paper never leaves the face usable again.
